Just last week, I received a great question from a patient. They asked what I could recommend to help them detoxify after a round of medication.
Obviously we can give a very specific answer with muscle testing and a personalized nutritional protocol, but below are six key steps that area a great general support your body’s own detoxification systems.
These six steps not only support the body’s key detoxifying organs, but they also will lay an excellent foundation for better health.
Five Organs of Detoxification
The Six Steps of Detoxification
- Foods to Include –The first step is increase your intake of detoxifying vegetables including:
Dark green leafy vegetables such as Spinach, Kale, Broccoli, Bok Choy, Brussels Sprouts as well as Onions, Leeks, Garlic, Radishes and Asparagus all naturally support the body’s own purification and detoxification processes.
- Foods to Avoid – Decrease your consumption of sugar, and increase your consumption of health fats:
Animal sources of Omega 3 fatty acids include fatty cold water fish, along with free range organic, grass fed meats. Vegetarian sources of healthy Omega 3′s include walnuts, flaxseeds and green leafy vegetables.
The optimum oil for cooking is coconut oil as it is best able to withstand the higher temperatures of cooking. Olive oil, especially extra virgin, is the optimum oil to use on cold dishes. Butter especially organic from a free range cow, is another acceptable oil to use.
Other sources of healthy fats include Olives, Avocados and nuts.
- Exercise –Especially yoga and movements that cause the body to sweat and increase circulation are best. Also, saunas can be a great help as well. These cause the body to sweat which is one of the 5 main ways the body detoxifies (through the skin).
- Clean updiet / cosmetics / environment / cleaning supplies / quality of water as much as possible to decrease the amount of toxins your body is exposed to. This will allow your body to focus its detoxification efforts on the old toxins stored in your body and not just tread water handling a burdensome daily toxic load.
- Garbage Out– Eat more detoxifying foods: dark, leafy green vegetables like kale, mustard greens, Swiss chard, spinach, turnip greens and arugula, in addition to lentils, beans, peas, raspberries, squash, broccoli, cranberries, Brussels sprouts, flax seeds, asparagus, cauliflower, eggplant, bell peppers, kiwis. Ensure adequate consumption of high fiber foods as well as clean spring water. This will support optimum elimination via the urinary system and bowels.
- Breathe –Deep breaths and fresh air is a simple but powerful adjunct to dietary detox as well.
This six step plan that will make a huge difference for anyone to get poisons out of their body!
